How to recognize a trustworthy cleaner
Practical signals to watch for before you let someone clean your home.
Look beyond a nice photo and a low price
A profile with a friendly photo and a sharp rate says little about someone's trustworthiness. Pay just as much attention to what isn't immediately obvious: has this person's identity been checked, what do past customers say, and how long has someone been active. Those signals are much harder to fake than a profile photo.
Verified identity, email and phone
A verified profile means the email address and phone number are genuinely reachable and that an ID document has been checked by an independent team, not just filled in by the cleaner themselves. That's no guarantee of good work, but it rules out anonymous or fake accounts before you ever get in touch.
References from past customers
A reference requested directly from a past customer is more valuable than text the cleaner writes about themselves. Check whether references are verified, meaning confirmed directly by the person who gave them, not just typed up by the cleaner.
Reviews from real collaborations
Standalone star ratings with no context are easy to make up. Ask yourself whether a review is tied to a confirmed, mutually confirmed collaboration between two existing accounts, or whether anyone can just leave a review. The stricter that link, the more trustworthy the average rating.
Make clear agreements before you start
Agree concretely upfront which tasks will be done, how long it takes, what rate applies, and how you'll arrange any keys or access. Most misunderstandings afterward happen because this was agreed too vaguely beforehand, not because someone turned out to be untrustworthy.
What if things go wrong anyway
Even with all precautions, a collaboration can still disappoint. Make sure you know how to report or block a user, and use that if something is genuinely wrong, so other customers don't have to repeat the same experience.
Frequently asked questions
Is a verified profile always trustworthy?
Verification confirms someone really is who they say they are, not that the work will be perfect. Always combine it with references and reviews for a fuller picture.
What if a cleaner doesn't have any reviews yet?
Everyone starts without a track record. In that case, look extra closely at verification and references, and agree to a shorter trial period the first time before making a fixed arrangement.
