Alternative to Temper
A comparison for cleaners who combine one-off shifts via Temper with regular clients.
For businesses or for private customers?
Temper is mainly aimed at businesses that occasionally hire extra staff, for example in hospitality or facility services - household cleaning for private individuals is only a small part of that. On Matiwala it's exclusively about private customers looking for a regular cleaner for their home.
One-off shifts or a steady client base?
Temper is built around one-off, short shifts - ideal as something to fill in the gaps, but less suited to building a steady, recurring client base. On Matiwala you build a profile with references and reviews, geared toward a long-term collaboration with the same customers.
Legal status: independent contractor or temp worker?
The Amsterdam Court of Appeal (gerechtshof Amsterdam) ruled in 2025 that people working through Temper are not independent contractors but temp agency workers. Temper has appealed this ruling to the Dutch Supreme Court (Hoge Raad), so a final answer is still pending. On Matiwala you work as the independent contractor you already are - the platform only connects supply and demand.
A fixed hourly platform fee, or a one-time fee
At Temper, the client pays a fixed platform fee per hour worked, on top of your rate. On Matiwala a customer pays a small fee once to start a conversation with you, not per hour worked - and that amount doesn't come out of your rate.
Frequently asked questions

Yes, there's nothing stopping you from being active on multiple platforms. Temper can work well as a supplement alongside a steady client base you build via Matiwala.
Can I also take on one-off jobs via Matiwala?
Matiwala is mainly geared toward an ongoing collaboration with customers near you, but you decide yourself which requests you accept and how often.
