Cookie policy

Last updated: 5 October 2026

Matiwala uses as few cookies as possible. This page explains which techniques we use and why. This English version is provided for convenience; the Dutch version is authoritative.

1. What are cookies

A cookie is a small text file a website can store on your device, for example to keep you logged in. Some techniques resemble cookies but don't store anything on your device - where relevant, we explain that below.

2. Necessary cookies

Matiwala uses one functional cookie to remember your session once you log in, so you don't have to log in again on every page. This cookie is necessary to use Matiwala and is therefore set without asking for consent, as the law allows for strictly necessary cookies. It expires automatically and is removed once you log out or after a period of inactivity.

3. Statistics: cookieless analytics

We use Umami to see how many people visit Matiwala and which pages are popular. Umami is deliberately built to be privacy-friendly: it doesn't set cookies and doesn't store data that would let you be recognized as an individual on a later visit. Because nothing is stored on your device, this isn't a "cookie" in the legal sense and no consent is required for it - we mention it here for completeness. We also use Vercel Speed Insights to measure the website's loading speed; this too happens without cookies and without this being traceable back to you personally.

4. Third-party cookies

If you choose to log in with Google or Facebook, that provider may set its own cookies during that login process. When checking out for a contact product, Mollie or the payment method you choose (such as your bank) may set its own cookies to process the payment securely. These are cookies from those third parties themselves, not from Matiwala - their own privacy and cookie policies apply to them.

5. No marketing or advertising cookies

Matiwala doesn't use cookies for advertising, retargeting or tracking behavior across different websites. Because we only use strictly necessary and cookieless techniques, we don't currently show a cookie banner. If this changes in the future, we'll update this page and ask for your consent first where needed.

6. Managing or removing cookies

You can always remove or block cookies yourself via your browser settings. Keep in mind that without the necessary session cookie, Matiwala can't remember that you're logged in.

7. Changes to this cookie policy

We may update this cookie policy, for example if we start using a new technique. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
