For customers
Does searching for a cleaner cost anything?
No. Searching, viewing profiles, checking references and reading reviews are always free, and you don't need an account for any of it.
How does paying to get in touch work?
Once you've chosen a cleaner, you pay a small fee once to open the conversation. That amount is for using Matiwala and is separate from the rate you agree with the cleaner for the cleaning work itself.
Does continuing an existing conversation cost anything too?
No. Once a conversation has started, sending messages stays free, even after your contact credit later expires.
What if a cleaner doesn't respond?
If a cleaner doesn't respond within 48 hours and you have no credit left, you automatically get a free replacement contact to try another cleaner. So you never pay for a cleaner who doesn't respond.
Do I need to create an account to search?
No. You can search and view profiles without an account. You only need one once you want to get in touch with a cleaner.
For cleaners
Does it cost me anything to sign up as a cleaner?
No. Creating a profile, appearing in search results and receiving messages is completely free.
Does Matiwala charge commission on my rate?
No. What you agree with a customer is yours. Matiwala never takes a percentage of your rate or earnings - customers pay a separate, small fee to start a conversation.
Do I need a diploma to become a cleaner?
No, no diploma or certificate is required for household cleaning. Experience helps, but isn't necessary to get started.
How quickly will I be visible to customers?
Once you've filled in your profile and submitted it for review, our team usually looks at it within a few business days. Your profile only becomes visible in search results after approval.
Trust, safety and privacy
How is a cleaner verified?
We check email address and phone number automatically. For the identity badge, you upload a valid ID document, which an administrator reviews by hand and then deletes. Only approved profiles become visible in search results.
What are references and how do they work?
Cleaners can request references from past customers. A reference only counts once that customer confirms it themselves via a unique link - so writing your own reference isn't possible.
How do reviews work?
A review can only be posted after a confirmed collaboration between a customer and a cleaner. Standalone or fake reviews aren't possible, and customers build their own reputation too.
Is my personal information safe?
Your exact address, private phone number, email address and identity documents are never shown publicly. Contact details you share in a message are automatically hidden until you both confirm your collaboration.
What if things don't go well with someone?
You can block a conversation at any time, after which that person can no longer start a new conversation with you. You can also report any profile or conversation to our team - every report is reviewed.
